Florida Attorney General Sues City of Jacksonville Over Gun Registry
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has proven to be a staunch Second Amendment advocate. On May 12, he announced that he was suing the city of Jacksonville for $5 million for keeping an illegal gun registry of firearms that had been brought into two city buildings, in violation of state law.
Associated Press Attacks Muskets and Lead Balls
NEW YORK — The left knows no boundaries when it comes to attacking Second Amendment rights and the media is nearly always a complicit actor in these attacks. On May 14, the Associated Press ran a hit piece on flintlock rifles, noting that they are not regulated as firearms and are not subject to the same ownership prohibitions. Their fudd-like post noted, “A musket from 1776 can fire a lead ball at a velocity of around 1,000 feet per second.”
Westchester County, New York Residents Face One-Year Delay for Pistol Licenses
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Westchester County, New York is rejecting applications for pistol licenses and directing individuals to schedule appointments to submit applications with the earliest date one year out.
Gun Owners of America Senior Vice President Erich Pratt sent a scathing letter to County Commissioner Terrance Raynor and Pistol License Unit Sgt. Vito Salvatore and warned that the unconstitutional denial of Second Amendment rights violates federal court precedent and will invite litigation if not remedied.
DOJ Is Sniffing Out Racial Disparities in Gun Control Restrictions
WASHINGTON — In a May 13 interview between AAG Harmeet Dhillon, head of the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, and 2A advocate and journalist Cam Edwards, Ms. Dhillon indicated that the DOJ is very aware of the racial biases in the gun control schemes of blue states.
“Some of the restrictions in some jurisdictions… they actually impact people of color significantly. All Americans of all backgrounds of all stripes – no matter where they live – are entitled to the protection of the Second Amendment,” stated Dhillon.
She specifically mentioned litigation in the Virgin Islands, which shares the same Circuit Court as New Jersey. News2A has extensively documented the racial disparities in New Jersey’s permitting scheme, which are now even larger than first understood, according to recent reporting.
Gun Rights Groups File Amicus Curiae Brief in Case of Tate Adamiak
WASHINGTON — On May 11, Palmetto State Armory, the National Association for Gun Rights, and The Right to Bear Association filed a joint amicus curiae brief urging the Supreme Court to grant certiorari in one of the most famous cases of a weaponized government agency targeting a citizen for contrived gun crimes.
The brief argues that the government’s actions in this case “strikes directly at amici’s members, customers, and constituents, many of whom lawfully buy, sell, collect, display, and possess inoperable military-pattern relics and demilled surplus, and who now face the prospect of two-decade prison sentences for doing so.”
During testimony in front of Congress on May 14, recently appointed ATF Director Robert Cekada stated that the ATF has been in contact with Mr. Adamiak’s attorney, and that resentencing in his case is scheduled for June.
Gun Control ‘Wish List’ in Minnesota Fails
ST. PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota gun owners can breathe a sigh of relief. After defending what seemed like a never-ending onslaught of gun control measures, constituents and gun rights groups brought enough pressure to bear to effectively kill HF 5140, the liberal “wish list” gun control package.
The measure failed in a May 14 party-line vote of 67-67 in the House. The package of gun control included a ban on modern sporting rifles, magazines that hold over 17 rounds, home built firearms, and certain types of triggers; places limits on self-defense rights; and expanded red flag laws.
The Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus continues to be the most active and engaged gun rights group in the state and deserves your support.
