It is unclear whether she has been fired or asked to resign, but Pam Bondi is officially stepping down from her role as U.S. Attorney General, with the news breaking across news outlets and social media on April 2. Todd Blanche will serve as the Acting Attorney General until President Trump permanently appoints someone to the role.
According to a Fox News report, Bondi was fired by President Trump on April 1, but that remains unconfirmed. In a post on X, Bondi confirmed the change in leadership, stating that she will work to transition the role over to Todd Blanche before “moving to an important private sector role I am thrilled about, and where I will continue fighting for President Trump and this Administration.”
In an April 2 post on Truth Social, President Trump stated:
Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year. Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900. We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future, and our Deputy Attorney General, and a very talented and respected Legal Mind, Todd Blanche, will step in to serve as Acting Attorney General. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
Confirmed by the U.S. Senate on February 4, 2025, and sworn in on February 5, 2025, Bondi was a controversial appointment from the beginning, especially for the Second Amendment community.
This site has tracked every major 2A-related action over the course of Bondi’s tenure in our dedicated tracker. In her prior role as Florida’s Attorney General, Bondi supported “red flag” laws, bans on firearms for adults under 21, and bans on bump stocks. In her role as U.S. Attorney General, she was responsible for a mixed bag of 2A engagements that sometimes favored the Second Amendment, but often aligned with the federal government’s anti-2A stance, especially on significant topics such as the National Firearms Act.
The only widely-lauded move by the Bondi DOJ (from the perspective of the 2A community) was the establishment of the Second Amendment Section under Assistant Attorney General of the Civil Rights Division, Harmeet Dhillon. Ms. Dhillon’s work leading this division includes an unblemished track record of pro-2A briefings, affirmative suits, and courtroom testimony. She has been actively promoted for the role of Attorney General by significant voices in the community, including receiving a nomination from the National Association for Gun Rights.
Her possible appointment begs the question of who would backfill her role, and whether that person would be as aggressive and true to the task of upholding Second Amendment rights – a directive laid out in President Trump’s February 2025 executive order.
Confirmed in March 2025, Todd Blanche has served as the Deputy Attorney General. Blanche is generally considered a Second Amendment supporter, and while attending the 2026 SHOT Show in Las Vegas, shared his view on the left’s assault on gun rights with Breitbart News, saying, “They are crafty, and they are creative, and they are violating the Second Amendment.”
