GOA’s Erich Pratt on the BBB and 2026 Plans

I had a chance to chat with Erich Pratt from Gun Owners of America last June. We discussed some of GOA’s triumphs as well as their plans going into 2026.

Erich Pratt & the Interview

Pratt is the Senior Vice President of Gun Owners of America and he opened up about all things GOA. At the time of our interview, the negotiations on President Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill Act were still in progress. Pratt talked about some of the provisions GOA and other organizations tried to work into the bill at the time.

GOA v. GOF

Gun Owners of America is a 501(c)(4) lobbying organization. Their sister organization, the Gun Owners Foundation, is a 501(c)(3). Pratt broke down some of the differences between the organizations and how they both operate.

Looking into 2026

Pratt explained during the interview some of the strategy and plans that GOA was planning on executing into and throughout 2026.

“A lot of existing litigation will probably still be going on next year,” Pratt said. “We’ve got cases in New Jersey. We’ve got cases in New York and California. We have almost 30 active lawsuits right now in about 12 states, plus 24 amicus briefs in cases like semi-auto bans.”

Priorities

Among some of the initiatives that the organization seeks to pursue include the abolishment of the ATF, the continued deregulation of NFA items, and getting national reciprocity across the finish line.

“It’s ridiculous that a driver’s license, which doesn’t even protect a constitutional right, is recognized in all 50 states, but your Second Amendment rights stop at your state border in many cases,” Pratt explained. “That’s something that needs to be changed.”
