On December 6, Glock unveiled its brand new Gen 6 line of pistols, reflecting the most significant change in design, functionality, and style to its product line in decades.
In its email announcement Glock states “The GLOCK Gen6 line of pistols delivers enhanced ergonomics for increased usability and comfort with a unique optic ready system.”
Coming shortly after the revelation of its Glock V series, which seemed to be an attempt to address legal concerns around pistols retrofitted with illegal switches, the market has had mixed reactions to the announcement. Common sentiment is that the iconic manufacturer – which popularized the striker-fired, polymer frame, high-capacity pistol design – has lagged behind its competitors for decades, with previous model refreshes being nearly indistinguishable from its other products.
With the announcement of the Gen 6, Glock appears to be attempting to combat the stale image perception. And some have been extremely positive and receptive to the new designs, which many speculate will be available to customers at the 2026 NSSF SHOT Show event in Las Vegas.
The new Gen 6 appears to be limited to three models so far: the Glock 17, 19 and 45. The most notable design changes include new texturing, a new optics mounting system (replacing the MOS system), and what might be a fully modular grip system that includes different backstrap options. Additionally, it features new, angled slide serrations and an undercut trigger guard, a new thumb rest and a flat-faced trigger.
The Gen 6 full feature list includes:
- Palm Swell: The palm swell contours the pistol to the natural curvature of the hand.
- RTF6 Grip Texture: The Gen6 grip texture (RTF6) combines two textures into one to create the perfect blend of performance and comfort.
- Enlarged Beavertail: The enlarged beavertail encourages a higher grip while ensuring the slide can cycle freely.
- Slide Stop Lever Enlarged Border: The border surrounding the slide stop lever has been enlarged to prevent unintentional activation.
- Thumb Rest: The thumb rest is textured and extended for increased control during recoil.
- Glock Serrations: The slide serrations are angled deeper into the slide to make the surface engagement more tactile for slide manipulations.
- Trigger Guard: Undercut trigger guard allows for higher grip support and comfort.
- Flat Faced Trigger: Each Gen6 pistol comes standard with a flat faced trigger for consistent finger placement and trigger pull. The trigger maintains the Safe Action System for uncompromising safety and reliability.
- Optic Ready: Gen6 pistols come optic ready with a system engineered for adaptability and durability.
Glock also notes that each new Gen 6 pistol will include:
- Glock Safe Action pistol, including three magazines
- Magazine speed loader
- Cleaning set (rod with patch holder and brush)
- Instructions for use manual
- Pistol case (for storage and transport)
- Backstrap set
- Three optic plates
