Amidst Mounting Political Pressure, Glock Quietly Discontinues 35 Pistol Models

On April 28, in a simple statement on an otherwise unremarkable web page, Glock listed 35 models of pistols it is discontinuing, with the statement: “streamlining our portfolio for a stronger future.” The editorial team at News2A reached out to Glock for a statement but received no response.

The list of discontinued products includes many newer Gen 4 and Gen 5 pistols.

Glock has been besieged with frivolous lawsuits, including one from the New Jersey Attorney General brought under the state’s “nuisance law”, that sought to ban the firearms. The suit is being reopened in court by the NSSF. That lawsuit was joined by Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison.

The City of Chicago filed suit against Glock and its parent company in March 2024, in Cook County Circuit Court. The initial federal court filing was voluntarily dismissed, and the case was refiled in state court.

The State of Maryland and City of Baltimore also filed suit against Glock on February 12, 2025, alleging Glock’s pistols contribute to gun violence by being “easily modified” with auto sears (a criminal action).

Our friends at Bearing Arms also just broke the news that two bills in the Illinois legislature would seek to ban Glocks outright.

History

Opinions on the popular pistols vary strongly among the Second Amendment community, but there is no doubt that the iconic brand has left a strong impression and remains very popular. Glock won its first major military contract with the Austrian Army for the Glock 17, designated as the P80, with a contract for 20,000 pistols.

In addition to outfitting many NATO militaries around the world, Glock has won contracts for:

  • U.S. Army (2021): Glock 17, 19, and 26
  • U.S. Military Special Operations: U.S. Army Rangers, Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (Glock 19), and U.S. Special Forces, including Delta Force (Glock 22)
  • U.S. Coast Guard: (via DHS): Glock 19 and Glock 47
  • U.S. Marine Corps: Glock 19M

Glock released some new products at the 2025 SHOT Show in January, including:

  • A new line of 9mm GLOCK pistols with the Aimpoint COA optic
  • GLOCK Tactical Light, the GTL II
  • GLOCK Performance Trigger, available in .40 caliber and .22 L.R.
