DALLAS — As the saying goes, “all politics are local,” and when it comes to combating gun control measures, that statement rings especially true, with state-level gun rights groups carrying the lion’s share of the effort to track and mitigate gun control bills before they become enshrined as legislation.
This year during the 2026 Gun Rights Policy Conference in Texas, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms honored Derek LeBlanc with the Grassroots Activist of the Year award for the accomplishments of the newly formed Oregon Gun Owners Action League (ORGOAL).
ORGOAL is the newest state affiliate of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, being recognized in July of this year.
Mr. LeBlanc isn’t just the founder of ORGOAL, he’s a veteran Second Amendment activist. Along with being a firearms instructor and owner and founder of Lethal Lovebirds LLC, a firearms training school, he also founded the Kids S.A.F.E. Foundation, a non-profit that teaches children firearm-accident prevention and safe handling through free, apolitical classes.
News2A spoke with Mr. LeBlanc at GRPC to get a better understanding of the legislative and cultural environment surrounding firearms and gun control efforts in Oregon.
