Chicago, You’re Off Your Meds

A bottle of prescription medication

Chicago has a rich history of being one of the worst places to be for violence with a gun. The state of Illinois is relatively pro-gun despite the Windy City. But it’s got two things going on right now that are on complete polar opposite ends.

We have GLOCK getting sued by the city of Chicago because it is allegedly easy to convert a GLOCK pistol to have a “GLOCK switch“ which makes the handgun fully automatic. This is, of course, illegal already. Machine gun possession has been illegal since the National Firearm Act of 1934. You cannot make a machine gun unless you have the proper license as an FFL. You cannot legally possess machine guns unless you have special permission from the federal government and pay a special tax. Most gun owners know, or should know, this.

This is very similar to what California has going on with one of their politicians. The politician, LA Congresswoman Nithya Rama, claims that Toyota is making it easy for catalytic converters to be stolen off of a Toyota Prius. But of course, that process requires you to get underneath the car, and use a sawzall to remove the catalytic converter. For someone like me, you have to know what the converter looks like and where it’s located.

What they’re really not doing is putting the blame on the criminal activity, but rather on the manufacturer of a lawful and safe product. The lawsuit also goes on to say that GLOCK is putting profits over public safety.

Glock knows that it takes little effort to convert its pistols into illegal machine guns and that criminals frequently do so,” the lawsuit alleges. “Glock also knows it could fix the problem, but has chosen not to, putting profits over public safety and violating the law.

Meanwhile, an Obama appointed judge in Illinois has dismissed charges of possession of a firearm for an illegal alien in Chicago.  The judge says he was only getting the gun for self-defense during the fiery but mostly peaceful protests of 2020.

Carbajal-Flores has never been convicted of a felony, a violent crime, or a crime involving the use of a weapon. Even in the present case, Carbajal-Flores contends that he received and used the handgun solely for self-protection and protection of property during a time of documented civil unrest in the Spring of 2020.

According to US District Judge Sharon J Coleman, this person is “lawful” to possess firearms, because they go to work, they haven’t committed other crimes, and they’re not a threat or harm to society. I’m pretty sure the readers of this website go to work, don’t commit crimes, and are not a threat or harm to society. We take the necessary training, pass background checks, and purchase firearms that are lawful to possess, keep, and oftentimes carry.

So why don’t we use the old Democrat plan of not letting a crisis go to waste. Why can’t we take this and say that if someone that comes to this country illegally, has a job and doesn’t commit crimes, that they are constitutionally given the right to keep and bear arms to protect themselves, then you and I particularly if you live in occupied territory (Mass. & N.J.), should be able to own, so-called assault weapons and so-called high-capacity magazines?

If someone that comes to this country illegally still has the constitutional right to be able to keep and bear arms, then shouldn’t someone that lives here legally be afforded the same rights? If the illegal alien does not have to follow the laws to get into this country and is still able to exercise a constitutional right, then why are there any restrictions for you and me?

It’s very similar to the Hunter Biden case where he lied on the 4473 about not being a user of illicit drugs. I don’t want to give this guy credit for anything. Whether it’s getting rid of the 4473 or saying that he is a “contemporary artist” who sells works for $500,000. But could this be the case to eliminate the 4473 and background checks?

The real problem here is that the bad actors are not being punished for their criminal activity. They’re being rewarded. Whether it’s by suing GLOCK and saying it’s their fault that they converted the semi-automatic pistol into a fully automatic pistol. Or by stealing a catalytic converter from a car. Or by entering the country illegally than being rewarded with constitutional rights.

The libertarian streak in me thinks that if “We The People“ is really for any human, then maybe it’s OK for the illegal aliens to have guns. But I absolutely do not want the government, whether the FBI or ATF, to come after me for any of the firearms or magazines that I may possess. Or even the DIY guns. If we’re throwing out the laws, then let’s throw any infringement on my gun rights out, too.
